🇨🇳 Your cameras should not report to China
Most IP cameras sold in Greece — Hikvision, Dahua, Ezviz, TP-Link Tapo — connect by default to manufacturer cloud servers in China. Your live footage travels there every second. Most users never know.
What actually happens
- You install a Hikvision camera and set up Hik-Connect app
- The camera establishes a persistent tunnel to Hikvision servers in China
- All video streams, motion events and recordings pass through those servers
- This continues even when you are not watching
- You have no control over what is retained, analysed or shared
This violates GDPR
Under EU GDPR, transferring personal data (including video footage of people) to countries without adequate data protection — including China — requires explicit legal basis. Most homeowners and businesses using these cloud apps are technically non-compliant.
The ArgosAI approach
- ✅ Cameras configured in local-only mode — cloud features disabled
- ✅ NVR stores footage on your premises
- ✅ Remote access via personal WireGuard VPN — encrypted, no third party
- ✅ AI detection runs on local hardware (Frigate) — no cloud processing
- ✅ Fully GDPR compliant
Which brands we avoid
We work with any camera hardware — but we always disable cloud features and use RTSP streams locally. The camera brand matters less than the configuration. We document exactly what your system does and does not transmit.
